Curators' Statement

30 Unique SEATS..... Upon which to sit right down + reflect upon this extraordinary site + sights of Fort Mason Center, an Urban National Park located on the coast of San Francisco. Latitude 37.807226 Longitude -122.431739.

We the curators of SEAT, Topher Delaney + Kika Probst of Seam Studio, have invested our expertise in the field of public art reaching out to our diverse, talented, creative Bay Area community with a request that artist’s create a seat which is responsive to the site + the extraordinary weather conditions of Fort Mason Center.

Each artist has considered + built a unique expression of SEAT which they have generously loaned to our National Park gratis!!!! Of interest too are the partnerships which have grown through this exhibition... Working collaborative partnerships : Arup’s team of Shane Myrbeck/ Joshua Cushner/ Michael Whitman, Toby Lewis /Kurt Graffy with Jefferson Mack...
Financial partnerships : Artists have reached out + supplemented their budgets through various social networking avenues in particular KICK STARTER + of course the tried + true up close + personal BAKE SALE.....

It is our honor to have contributed to the creation of such a public exhibition of artists who, through their belief in the process + their belief in the presence of public art in our National Parks, have created opportunities for we the public to be immersed in the natural beauty of this exceptional Park.
