Other than Italy, itself, San Francisco may be one of the
worlds best destinations for those who love things Italian.
An entire neighborhood in the city is wonderfully saturated
with Italian bakeries, eateries, coffee shops, and purveyors
of fine spirits. However, the flavor of Italy isnt confined
to North Beach. Great Italian restaurants that reflect every
region of the country from Tuscany to Sicily populate nearly
every neighborhood here. And the best of Italian wines can
be found in any reputable wine shop.
Now, with October being Italian Heritage Month, Italy is featured
in festivals, parades and in at least one must-attend event.
That would be the October 8 Cal-Italia Wine & Food Festival
when the Herbst Pavilion is transformed into a piazza and
"la dolce vita" are the words of the day.
If last year is a harbinger of this years event, visitors
can expect a wide range of wines from California vineyards
and an extraordinary array of food for gourmets and gourmands
alike. In addition to consumables ranging from olive
oil to truffles look for a little bocce ball, some
entertainment, and perhaps a classic Italian automobile or
two.
