Cowell Theater
Emmy-winning flamenco artist Yaelisa and dance partner Juan
Ogalla join the Caminos Flamencos dance group for a weekend
of fiery performances at the Cowell Theater in late October.
Spanish musicians and singers add flash and passion to the
production entitled Flamenco Pá Dos (Flamenco For
Two).
Two is the hottest number in flamenco dancing. Sparks fly
when Yaelisa and Ogalla circle each other and leap into lightning-fast
dance sequences or writhe to sensuous percussion.
"Juan is a fabulous and appealing dance partner and,
accompanied by our superb musicians, we will literally fly,"
said Yaelisa.
Guitarist Jose Valle Fajardo, vocalists Manuel de la Malena
and Jesus Montoya, and singer/percussionist El Yiyi are also
part of Caminos Flamencos fresh, contemporary approach inspired
by the current nuevo (new) flamenco movement in Spain.
Yaelisa plans to dance in new solo pieces as well as new duets
with Ogalla. Both dancers have performed in intriguing flamenco
fusion projects. Ogalla earned acclaim in 2001 for his work
in Flamenco Blue Impressions, which fused tap, jazz,
and flamenco forms at New Yorks 42nd Street Theater.
Yaelisa is founder and artistic director of the New World
Flamenco Festival held annually in Southern California. She
has toured as a guest artist throughout Spain, Japan, Mexico,
the Middle East, and the US. In 1993 she won an Emmy award
for the choreography in a PBS TV program about flamenco,
Desde Cadiz a Sevilla (From Cadiz to Seville).
