Cowell Theater
Dance Magazine calls them one of the top "25
to Watch." You can watch them too during the first two
weekends in December. Janice Garrett & Dancers bring exciting
new work to the Cowell stage for their 2005 home season.
Internationally acclaimed guest choreographer Charles Moulton
provides a San Francisco premiere of "18 Person Precision
Ball Passing" that fuses the communal energy of team
sports with the elegance of dance. San Franciscans will get
their first glimpse of Moultons work.
Garrett,
a choreographer who performs around the world and put down
roots in San Francisco in 2002, launches two world premieres.
"Fast Brass" is the dancers salute to celebration
and the boisterous gypsy horns of Romanias Fanfare Ciocarlia.
An untitled world premier Garrett piece is also performed,
this time working with Bay Area composer and cellist Moses
Sedler in their first collaborative venture. The dancers explore
Garretts dynamic movement as it coincides with Sedlers
harmonic and rhythmic music.
Also on the program are two favorites "Path on
the Rug," a piece the San Francisco Chronicle
described as "a superbly tension-ratcheting duet"
and "Ostinato," an audience favorite first performed
in 2002.
