DECEMBER 2005

The Nutcracker

Cowell Theater

’Tis the season, isn’t it? Chestnuts roasting on an open fire and all that. One of the rituals of the season is The Nutcracker. And why not? Especially when it is a joyful production by the City Ballet School and the City Youth Ballet.

Students, ages 6 to 17, are showcased in this annual Cowell Theater event held this year on December 17 and 18. Artistic Director Galina Alexandrova, who performed with the Bolshoi, San Francisco and Smuin Ballets, collaborates with Yuri Zhukov, who performed with the Kirov and San Francisco Ballet.

City Ballet School, known for producing professional dancers, provides children with the highest level of ballet training and places students with professional dance companies and in university programs.

The Nutcracker story is based on E.T.A. Hoffman’s "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King" and set to music by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

For more information check the December 17 calendar listing or visit www.cityballetschool.org.
