Cowell Theater
El Teatro de Danza Contemporánea de El Salvador (TDC) debuts at the Cowell Theater Sunday, March 26 with a program of contemporary and indigenous works that reflect the rich culture of Central America.
TDC presents six pieces, one world premiere and three never presented on the West Coast. The premiere, “Invisible Wings,” is choreographed by founder and artistic director Miya Hisaka Silva to an original score by Jamie Sieber. It reflects the struggles of newly arrived immigrants to the US.
Formed in San Salvador in 1994, TDC relocated to Washington, DC before, settling in nearby Sausalito. The dance troupe comes highly recommended. The New York Times had this to say: “... rich with nuance and physical inflection, physically sumptuous... .’ The Washington Post had good things to say about them as well: “Infused by the passion of living, the Company gives soulful meaning to the term expressive dance.”
After the Cowell performance, the TDC season continues at the Kennedy Center, Dance Place, and the Smithsonian Insitution.
The progam is part of the In Performance Series at the Cowell, which is supported by Grants for the Arts/San Francisco Hotel Tax Fund, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and the Fort Mason Foundation.
