Herbst International Exhibition Hall, Presidio of San Francisco & Cowell Theater
Two projects supported by Fort Mason Foundation’s Shulte Grants for the Arts and Crafts bring their productions to life in April.
Through collaboration with the Presidio Performing Arts Foundation/Presidio Dance Theatre and Paintbrush Diplomacy comes “2006 Dancing Across Cultures” beginning April 9. The exhibit showcases Presidio Dance Theatre’s international collection of theatrical costumes designed by the Kirov Ballet and Opera of Saint Petersburg, Russia, and others. Paintbrush Diplomacy’s international children’s art collection is showcased as well.
The exhibit, held at the Herbst International Exhibition Hall in the Presidio of San Francisco, includes workshops and lectures that provide viewers with the “ ... culture behind the costume.” The exhibit also features costumes used in Presidio Dance Theatre’s production at the Palace of Fine Arts on Friday, May 26. For more information, see April 9 and visit www.ppaf-sf.org.
Shulte Grant recipient Door Dog Music Productions launches the Youth World Music Festival at Fort Mason Center April 30. Watch as the Bay Area’s students, ages five to 17, explore their musical heritage.
Among the musicians are the Alice Fong Yu Chinese Youth Orchestra and Percussion Troupe highlighting the music of China, the Nejad World Music Center Youth Orchestra and Drum Circle playing traditional music from Iran, and vocalist Gaayatri Kaundinya singing the music of India.
Through this program, Door Dog Music Productions seeks to prepare a new generation of musicians to live and work in an environment of tolerance and respect for different cultures and peoples of the world.
