Herbst Pavilion
Work is underway to create a two-day conference designed to achieve social justice in our communities through art, design, and performance.
Funded in part by Fort Mason Foundation’s Shulte Grants for the Arts and Crafts and produced by the Greater Bay Area Arts Education Network, the conference is set for August 18 and 19 at Fort Mason Center’s Herbst Pavilion.
Titled “Making Art, Making Change: Catalyst 2006,” organizers hope to foster intergenerational dialogue among diverse “change agents” — youth, artists, arts educators, youth development leaders, activists, and community members. The success of the conference, they say, “hinges upon the contribution of every participant to a collective commitment to connections and collaboration.”
The Network is a collective that includes The Alliance for the Arts Learning Leadership – Alameda County Office of Education, California College of the Arts, Community Network for Youth Development, Cultural Initiatives Silicon Valley, Julia Morgan Center for the Arts, Music in Schools Today, Oakland School for the Arts, Performing Arts Workshop, the San Francisco Arts Commission, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Young Audiences of Northern California, and other arts educators.
Organizers expect the conference to engage the arts as a means to effect social change. To participate, contact (415) 252-2597, or visit www.performingartsworkshop.org/MAMC.htm and www.artiseducation.org.
