Art Close To Home Fort Mason Foundation Main Office Lobby, Building A
The light, air, and landscape of San Francisco figure prominently in the current art exhibit in Fort Mason Foundation’s main office. “In Our Backyard” is artist Alan May’s tribute to what he terms “our singular City.” In these one-of-a-kind prints, May combines recognizable images with abstracted shapes to create personal, poetic impressions of the city he loves.
A native Californian, Alan May is an accomplished painter and printmaker. He employs a variety of techniques in his work, including some that he has developed himself. His unique approach to his craft is apparent in the prints on display. Each is a monotype — one-off images that can be produced only once. May is also a teacher and offers printmaking classes in the Bay Area and abroad. His works are in private and corporate collections throughout the world.
“In Our Backyard” opened on August 28 and will be on display through October 20. Reception with the artist will be held on September 6 and September 29.
