Conference Center, Herbst & Festival Pavilions
Get a head start on your holiday giving at shows offering some of the finest handcrafts, clothing, jewelry, and so much more. Along with the much-anticipated Celebration of Craftswomen, a wide range of arts and crafts exhibitions take place at Fort Mason Center this November.
On November 25 and 26 and December 2 and 3, the Celebration Of Craftswomen comes to Fort Mason’s Herbst Pavilion, offering handmade works from more than 150 of the nation’s best female artisans and artists. This year’s show features ceramic and glass vessels, sculpted wood and metal works, stone and precious metal jewelry, woven and leather wearables, sculpture, photography, paintings, and furniture and home accessories. Live music, gourmet food, a benefit raffle, and children’s art area complement the handcrafts and fine art.
As San Francisco’s largest holiday fine crafts retail fair, the Celebration of Craftswomen is also the city’s largest event showcasing women’s crafts. The event is sponsored by and is a benefit for The Women’s Building, a long-standing community service center serving women and girls in San Francisco. For details or to purchase tickets, see November 25 or visit www.celebrationofcraftswomen.org.
On November 16, the Golden Gate Mothers Group hosts their annual boutique for members and friends at Fort Mason’s Conference Center. Have a glass of wine and enjoy dessert while you browse exquisite handcrafted jewelry, elegant women’s clothing, home and garden items, frames and albums, stationery, cards and notebooks, and everything you need for the baby in your life. For event details, see November 16 or visit www.ggmg.org.
The Serendipity Fine Arts and Crafts Show returns to Fort Mason’s Festival Pavilion on November 18 and 19, showcasing unique creations from over 200 artists. Among other styles, the show features the work of wooden Buddha statue carver Takayuki Zoshi. “My creativity is a kind of digging tool for searching out that treasure,” says Zoshi. “If I dig deeply enough inside me, I can touch the essence of life. I try to show that spirit of beauty through my work.”
The show is organized by Takashi Honda, an art fashion guru of 20 years who combines elements of his Japanese roots with San Francisco’s aesthetic openness. Gourmet food will be provided by California Rose. For details, see November 18 or visit www.takashihonda.com.
On Sunday, November 19, Rhode Island School of Design alumni hold their eleventh annual west coast Holiday Arts & Crafts Sale. More than 30 Bay Area alumni from this preeminent art and design institution are represented at Fort Mason Center’s Conference Center.
Arts and crafts enthusiasts can meet the artists, browse, and shop for handcrafted jewelry, ceramics, wearable art, home accessories, glass, prints, paintings, drawings, cards, paper, and much more. The event is free and open to the public. For event details, see November 19.
