Festival & Herbst Pavilions, Conference Center, Building A
Two major wine events sweep through Fort Mason Center this month.
The first is Golden Glass. In its fourth year, Slow Food San Francisco brings this gastronomic and educational event to the Herbst Pavilion Saturday, June 9.
Italy’s most talked-about wines from such regions as Abruzzo, Umbria, Toscana, Campania, and Veneto, among others, are featured in this extraordinary event, as are culinary treats from such San Francisco eateries as Chez Panisse, A16, Quince, Acquerello, Perbacco, Café Rouge, Delfina, Pico, and Il Boccalone. Don’t miss the chance to sample products from Bodega Boat Farms, Emporio Rulli, and Blue Bottle Coffee.
In addition to the main tasting, you learn about saving an endangered economic, social, and cultural heritage and have the opportunity to attend a silent wine auction featuring rare Italian magnums and other sought-after wines with proceeds benefiting the National Arthritis Foundation. For more information about the event and the associated gala, visit www.thegoldenglass.com.
Later in the month, June 29 through July 1, celebrate Pinot Days. Pinot Days related events are scheduled throughout San Francisco and in wine country. Many of the programs, including the Grand Festival on Sunday, July 1 are held here.
On that day 160 pinot noir producers — from California, Oregon, Burgundy, New Zealand, and Australia — pour their current releases as barrel samples at the vast Festival Pavilion. Food vendors will be plentiful here. On June 30, the Fort Mason Center Conference Center hosts tastings by region, including The Best of Anderson Valley, the Best of 2005 Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley and Oregon pinots.
Check www.pinotdays.com for a complete calendar of Pinot Days events in the region.
