The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour comes to the Cowell Theater on March 8 and 9. The festival is on the road across North America and around the world and features award-winning films that explore the sports, environment, and culture of the world’s mountains.
The San Francisco stop is in collaboration with the outdoor recreation company REI and features about 25 films that cover mountain life from Norway to Switzerland to the Himalayas and more. The wide range of subjects makes many of the films appealing to both experienced mountaineers and armchair adventurers.
The Banff Mountain Film Festival began in 1986 as an outreach program to share the efforts and talents of the world’s finest mountain filmmakers with audiences around the globe. Today, the annual festival world tour brings a diverse set of mountain films to thousands of people who cannot make the trek to the Canadian Rockies or the Swiss Alps.
Those seeking more high-adrenalin films can check out the Radical Reels Film Tour which complements the regular festival and focuses on dynamic, adventure films featuring sports such as skiing, climbing, mountain biking, snowboarding, kayaking, and BASE jumping.
