Conference Center, Building A
Ingenious tabletop gamers return to Fort Mason Center for epic fantasy battles and imaginative Warhammer game scenarios at the 2008 Quake City Rumble. For three days in late April, the Conference Center hosts intense combat rounds among teams of lizardmen, dwarves, elves, goblins, demons, orcs, vampires, and even the occasional mortal.
Many Warhammer squads feature brightly painted, incredibly detailed gaming pieces representing mythical characters. Contestants also set up elaborate Warhammer tournament scenes with realistic terrain, foliage, and structures such as castles.
Gamers win points based on army composition, battle outcomes, and sportsmanship. Quake City Rumble also recognizes the artistic efforts of participants by awarding points that increase with the level of painting detail lavished on game pieces.
Team owners who are members of independent gaming groups such as Leadership 2, Quake City Rumble’s sponsor, create the characters, pieces, and tableaus. Formerly known as the Bay Area Gaming Society, Leadership 2 members are as distinctive as the fantasy troops they assemble.
Members get together on a regular basis to test their mettle against other members. Leadership 2 and other Warhammer gaming groups also travel to tournaments across the US as part of the Independent Grand Tournament (Indy GT) circuit.
