Buildings A & D, Herbst International Exhibition Hall
Fashionista alert — if you’ve always yearned for a front-row seat on the catwalk, look no further than Fort Mason Center this month when students from the fashion design departments of two colleges show off their best efforts in runway shows.
On May 4 fashion design students from the University of California at Davis present their signature collections in the Runway Designers Fashion Show in Fort Mason Center’s Conference Center. The event has played to overflow crowds at the UC Davis campus in the past, so this year the Runway Designers Club presents an additional show here at FMC.
More student designers are represented in this year’s show than ever before, with 25 students participating. The fashions demonstrate the amazing range of design, from hand-made fabrics to intricate details like beading and embroidery. Hundreds of hours go into each student’s collection, so this is an event not to be missed.
Herbst International Exhibition Hall in the Presidio is the site of City College of San Francisco’s (CCSF) Runway Bazaar: The Place For Fashion on May 14. Using a “global bazaar” theme, the student designers invite attendees to view fashion through the eyes of old world merchants, buyers, and travelers as they “reinvent fashion with a new global sense of optimism and opulence.”
And for those who aren’t content to just look at beautiful clothing, the Fashionista Sale returns to FMC on May 10. This premier sample sale from Los Angeles features name designers at 50 to 70 percent off. See May 10 in the calendar for details.
For more information on the student shows, see May 4 and May 14 in the calendar. For information about CCSF’s fashion program, visit www.ccsf.edu/fashion.
