Landmark Buildings A, B & C
Fort Mason Center (FMC) is an inspiring place to be for those who love the arts, especially visual and performing arts. At most times of year, but particularly during the holidays, FMC is filled with sales, exhibits, and performances featuring work from local and global artists. FMC is also a great place to learn about the arts – from techniques for creating a wide variety of art to classes in acting, improv, and other performance-related skills.
The City College Of San Francisco (CCSF) Fort Mason Art Campus offers affordable art classes year-round. Sessions take place mainly in Building B. CCSF has classrooms, art studios, kilns, and other resources for studying art in its Building B campus.
A number of short courses start in November, including “The Art of Collage,” a “Warm Glass Fusing Workshop,” an “Oil Painting Workshop: Color and Chiaroscuro,” the “Photo Portfolio Workshop: Digital and Gelatin Silver,” and a sculpture workshop, “Re-Fabricate: Creating Art From Recycled Materials.”
Experienced local artists conduct the classes and encourage students to remain active in the CCSF arts community. The Coffee Gallery in Building B provides exhibit opportunities for students and faculty. Students and instructors also organize periodic campus-wide art events, such as the annual holiday art show and sale scheduled for early December. View a full list of classes, schedules, and descriptions at www.ccsf.edu/ContinEd.
Another FMC resident organization, California Lawyers For The Arts (CLA), teaches aspiring and established artists about legal and business aspects of their art at reasonably priced workshops. Young photographers participating in the group’s “Spotlight on the Arts” education program exhibit their work at the “Open Your Eyes” exhibit in the FMC Lobby in Building A from November 8 through December 20, 2008. The lobby gallery is open from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily and admission is free.
On Wednesday, November 19, 2008 from 7:00–8:30 p.m., filmmakers and producers can explore what it takes to make a movie in CLA’s “The Business of Making Your Film.” Taught by entertainment attorney Lindsay G. Spiller, this $20 workshop covers business plans, team selection and recruitment, attaching film talent, financing, licensing music, and securing distribution. See www.calawyersforthearts.org for more details about the group’s workshops and programs.
